You know how Moses parted the Red Sea? 📜 Nicar You know how Moses parted the Red Sea? 📜

Nicaragua sort of has its own version of that: Punta Jesús María.

On Ometepe Island, there’s a black sand beach that stretches allll the way out into Lake Nicaragua. You get a spectacular view of the island’s two volcanoes, and can even see Volcán Mombacho across the water on the mainland. 🌋

In the dry season, the sandbar extends as far as 1km into the lake. In the rainy season, the strip of land is typically smaller, but the tides crash from opposite sides and meet in the middle, making you feel like you’re standing on the edge of two oceans.

Punta Jesús María is cool to see in the daytime, but absolutely spectacular at sunset. It’s worth holding out for a late day visit just to catch the explosion of color. 🌈

There are also little shops and restaurants on the site, so you can plan a whole evening around Punta Jesús María.

You can easily reach this volcanic beach by the main road on Ometepe Island. It is close to Moyogalpa, which has the main ferry port. ⛴️

💡Remember: Dry season at sunset is the best time to visit Punta Jesús María when you’re on Isla de Ometepe! 🌅

Did you stand on this black sandbar? What did you think?

🧚 OJO DE AGUA 🧚 It feels like something str 🧚 OJO DE AGUA 🧚

It feels like something straight out of a fable.
(Minus the trolls 🧌)

But it’s very real, and very cool.

✨A little bit about Ojo de Agua:

It’s a tiny oasis right in the heart of Ometepe Island, in Santo Domingo. ♾️

The crystalline pool is completely natural. The water is actually sourced directly from Volcán Concepción! This means it’s filled with vital minerals like potassium and magnesium. 🌋

The water temperature is a consistently perfect 75F/24C.🌡️ It is incredibly refreshing to take a dip after trekking around the island!

Ojo de Agua has a platform with a swing that kids—and adults—love to dive off. It also features seated swings that make for a great photo op. 📸

The site of this little paradise has been built out with amenities like a snack bar (with high price tags), beers, cocktails, and coconut drinks, changing rooms, showers, toilets, and lockers. 🥥

Ojo de Agua costs $10 to enter (Nicaraguan nationals pay less), and is an absolute must visit on Ometepe Island. It’s open yearround from 7:30AM-5:00PM.

Want to de-stress, rejuvenate, and cool off at Ojo de Agua? SAVE this reel for your next trip to Nicaragua! 🗺️

SEND this to a friend who needs a fantasy vacation ASAP 🦄✈️

You do you. (But if you still want to be comfortab You do you. (But if you still want to be comfortable…)

Here’s what you’ve gotta know about what to wear to Nicaragua. ✈️

[SAVE THIS LIST]

3 Things to Know When You Pack for Nicaragua:

👉 The country is fairly modest. 🤐
Nicaraguans tend to cover up more than you might expect for such a hot climate. Don’t be surprised to see long sleeves and long pants on the locals. Wear what makes you comfortable, but be aware that you might attract extra looks if you show a lot of skin.

👉 The sun will humble you. 🌞
Be prepared. Bring a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen if you can. Consider short sleeves over sleeveless tops if your skin is sensitive to sunburn.

👉 The destination matters. 🗺️
Let your travel plans determine your attire. A trip to the beaches of San Juan del Sur calls for different fits than the jungles of Ometepe’s volcanoes. Going into nature for hikes and horseback rides? Pack long pants. Surf lessons and cervecerías? Sturdy sandals will do just fine.

Above all, remember that less is more and comfort is key. Pack light, dress light, and get out there to explore! 🧭
